I used both Omnidrive (Nik Cubrilovic, http://www.omnidrive.com) and steekR (Christophe Comborde, http://www.steekr.com) and I believe that Steek is better. Omnidrive has lots of good and unik features (for example : Live Folders, ZIP extraction, WebDAV acess with a Pro subscription), but the package also comes with some “bugs” that makes the file sharing experience turn into a headache (sometimes you’re stuck with the very slow logins, the sync on the win/mac client that forces the user to wait for its 20 gigs of data to be downloaded, the vista look of the web interface, the buggy web interface [on FF]). While Omnidrive limits the bandwidth (traffic) for free users to 5GB, SteekR have no limits and lets you share your files however your want. Just to make thing clearer, both are offering 1GB space for free and are letting you editting your office (word, excel) documents using Zoho.
Now, let’s see now the integration on the Operating System (Win/Mac). SteekR offers 3 windows clients (SteekR Drive for Backuping your data with incremental backups, SteekR Drivedrive to browse your account as Omnidrive does, SteekR Quickdrive is designed for USB keys and lets you access your account wherever you are independantly from the browser) and one (for the moment) MAC client (SteekR Drive for backups). SteekR also lets you play your Video files directly from the browser (it also does the same for audio files and images as does Omnidrive). You can manage your contacts and you shared links (you can obviously share your files with Steekr members and non-members). You can also search into your files (Omnidrive didn’t introduce this major feature yet).
Here are the interfaces. Personnally, I think that SteekR is better designed. It’s not something that can make you choose steekR but it’s always good to have a beautiful interface, available in French and in English. Omnidrive have a very good interface (it’s well done), but I would have prefered a MAC OSx style (we should have a more neutral interface).

In term of reliability and the fact that whether steekR will stay online in the next years, you should know that the main enterprise Agematis (that owns steekr) has done the NeufGiga drive (http://www.neufgiga.com), a file sharing solution similar to steekR but is only available for the clients of the ISP Neuf.fr (those users can access their files through their TV, their Mobile Phone and the Web). They’ve also started a file sharing system into the Voila.fr french portal (owned by France Telecom, that company that owns Orange, the ISP and mobile provider). SteekR is planning to launch a NetVibes widget which will truly enhance the file sharing experience …
However, Omnidrive provides some features that certainly won’t be available on steekR like the very useful WebDAV (although you need to pay to have WebDAV access). Omnidrive also lets you synchronise your FlickR photos with your account using their RSS based Live Folders. It also lets you generate direct links which can be very useful for those who post their files on their websites/blogs.
